This piece has nothing to do with basketball. Instead, it is composed of many small musical components which can be found in threes and twos, in three groups of two, or two groups of three. Taking inspiration from Beethoven's Fifth, I chose to use this small concept to dictate nearly all of the decisions I made throughout the composition process. The opening statement contains a six-note chord comprising three diatonic seconds. This chord is found in harmonic and melodic variations all over the piece. I also depicted threes and twos rhythmically using 3 against 2 syncopation, and the clave rhythm which has a "3 side" and a "2 side".
