Longing to Belong
FALL 2019 – WINTER 2020
Longing to Belong was written by Nevada pianist, Tammy Dachtyl. She originally wrote this piano solo as a lament over the struggle and hardships that two family members had gone through in their early lives. The piece has a somber tone, but it ends triumphantly as a reflection of her hope that things might turn out well for them.
She commissioned me to create an orchestral arrangement of the piece. Her piano solo leaned heavily toward film music style, and I was asked to do the same with my arrangement. It was the first time I had created film-style audio, though I have been told that some of my concert compositions have some film score qualities. We were proud of the final result and I hope you enjoy listening to it.
