Written for Dr. Susan Powell in December 2015 as a gift, this piece for unaccompanied 4.0 octave xylophone is a unique mixture of contemporary, classical, and ragtime styles, fit into the form of a sonata. Virtuosic in nature, the piece makes use of the entire range of the 4.0 octave instrument and the unique timbres that are produced by its high and low registers. Since the xylophone is not a naturally resonant instrument, the time in the piece is filled mostly with many notes, though these passages are also contrasted by silent space.
